From an original production date of 1976, this MGB GT V8 was first UK registered in August 1976 (still retains its UK registration). The vehicle is shown in its original Colour/Code BLVC 133 (Flamenco Red/Scarlet), the car displays its original black/blue interior and vinyl sunroof. This limited MGB GT V8 production only lasted between 1973-76 with a total vehicle production of just 2591 cars. The V8 engine is from the Rover 3.5L with SU HIF6 carburettors (2x 1.75″), the car produced 137 horsepower at 5,000 rpm, ironically the aluminium engine block was near 40 lbs lighter than the 1800cc iron block of the standard MG; only to be held back by its 20 miles per gallon fuel consumption and high sales price of £3317 back in 1976. This vehicle is thought to be unrestored showing just 65,000 miles on the clock, considered correct as the car was last road registered in 1989, being for many years in garage storage. The car presented retains all its original features unmolested and unmodified and is an excellent light restoration project.
The vehicle price is offered to original, restoration standard, to collect from Guernsey. The potential buyer can work with us to amend the specifications to their requirement during restoration with the price being adjusted accordingly. Our terms are quite simple, requiring one third of the price to secure the vehicle, one third after any fabrication and painting, and the final payment being prior to road testing and valeting. Photos of all works will be forwarded throughout the project.
Our restoration includes body work fabrication to the rear left wing and correction to any other body defects before repainting, as part of this restoration it is proposed to remove the rubber bumpers and revert back to the more sought after chrome bumpers, remount the indicators and wiring accordingly. If required to make the car more suited for European Touring we can swap the transmission and clutch assembly to the more modern and lighter feeling Mazda 5 speed (set up at extra cost – please enquire); the original transmission will be stored with the car to restore back later if required. From our own personal note we consider these V8 MG’s to be hugely undervalued and fun to drive and would expect its value to greatly increase in future years.
Additional small functional items parts are not included in the restoration price and will be charged to the customer as extras if they decide/require to fully ‘nut and bolt’ restore the car, exchanging functional parts – most MGB GT V8 parts are very reasonably priced though and easily available, so we are happy to discuss.
The vehicle is currently located in our warehouse in Guernsey, we are happy to help with worldwide shipping or, short term, owner’s risk storage free for the first six months and available to extend to a longer term if required.
Of particular interest to Hong Kong buyers, this vehicle retains its original rear seatbelts, for 4 seater vehicle type registration and although the registration process adds a 50% premium tax to imports, normally if held in our storage could claim an annual 20% value depreciation, please always take full local taxational automotive advice before proceeding as regions may differ.
