1973 Porsche 911S Coupe RHD

Category:

POA.

From a production date of May 1973, this F Series, 911S Coupe is originally manufactured to Australian specification and is as such Right Hand Drive from Dr Ing h c F Porsche AG in Germany, from a production year of 1,430 vehicles it is believed less than 60 RHD came to the UK with little more than 15 other RHD specification models being exported to elsewhere territories. The vehicle is currently shown to a close match of Colour/Code 700 (Black) from its original, Colour/Code 131 (Light Ivory).

The vehicle at present has had body modification to resemble the later 930 Turbo or offered to be a good starting to take the basic 1973, 911S and to update to RSR homologation regulations (1973 RSR, came from either privateers or factory modified – option M492 to 911S (RS) – option price then at around 24K US$ – 2.8L modified engine, body modifications, 917 brakes to 17″ alloys, amongst other weight/performance modifications). Fundamentally to be correct this car would require a type 911/72 engine (I think, to be correct) and once fully correct to FIA regulations would be expected to have recorded racing experience. Classic racing, I believe of this class still exists and to allow the full homologation regulations to be checked by the FIA and recorded as compliance against the chassis number of this vehicle.

As I’ve imported quite a few similar conversion cars from Australia, my best guess is that the bodywork was most likely altered out by Zag of NSW – older Porsches from Australia are frequently seen modified in view of the import restriction on vehicles on a later dated vehicles being imported, where the same vehicle/type has been activity sold in the local market. I understand these Australian restrictions from this year are now rolling on a 25 year restriction period rather than from a previously fixed year (previously 1989, I think!). I can say that Australia is one of the most strict world’s nation on approving anything modified onto public roads, so conversions do tend to be very good!

The ‘Letter of Origin’ shows the car was originally factory supplied as export to Australian specification (right hand drive), the vehicle was supplied optioned with rear wiper and Trim on Wheel Housings any other unrecorded options would have been locally dealer fit.

This car is offered with modified bodywork and what seems to be a very solid base before modifications. The vehicle’s original Matching Number engine 6331741 and Transmission 7338609 were supplied with the vehicle from new, the car was offered with a 2.4L engine with mechanical fuel injection to an impressive 190 bhp at 6500rpm match to the newer (stronger) 915 transmission. Today the vehicle is offered with an engine/transmission combination from a non USA, 1973 911T (non mechanical injection). The car has not been tested by us, believed running around 5 years ago at the point we imported the car in from Australia – the car was recorded under club insurance/license. If the normal road insurance/license is not renewed (expires) in Australia duties are required to reregister or classic car have some options to be driven on a club insurance/license basis.

This car shows the full potential to restore and transform to period original, with a donor 911/53, 2.4L engines and year correct 915 transmission, and to be in the much in demand, last of the pre impact bumpers from Porsche. We believe this car does offer many creditable directions as a restoration project and would attract considerable interest with a price premium on its rare, Right Hand Drive production.

The vehicle is currently located in our warehouse in Guernsey, we are happy to help with worldwide shipping, or short term owner’s risk storage free for the first six months and available to extend to a longer term if required.
